CHELSEA footballer John Terry has submitted plans to build a fishing lake at his Oxshott, Surrey, home. The ex-England player wants to have the  lake on a piece of land next to a new house he is having built. Elmbridge Borough Council’s planning committee will review the application later this month. Meanwhile, Everton right-back Tony Hibbert is going to open his own carp fishery in France next year. It will be called Lac de Premier, and is near Fismes, northern France.. The 13-acre water already holds carp to more than 60lb, but further stocking of fish up to 60lb are planned. Hibbert, who has been a keen angler since he was 13, said: “It’s always been my dream to open my own fishery.”

If it swims, I'll fish for it: marlin or mackerel, trout or tench, salmon or snook. I've written several books on fishing, from one for the Duke of Edinburgh's award to the notorious Catchmore Sharks (don't look at the pictures) and Bob Nudd's autobiography, How to be the World's Best Fisherman. I love exotic travel for fishing (been to Mongolia and Ecuador, the Great Barrier Reef and Arunachal Pradesh) and wish I could afford to do such trips more often. My favourite fish? Anything with fins, though I have a special love for mahseer, and I'm chairman of The Mahseer Trust.
