An Edward vom Hofe Restigouche in all-aluminium is the highlight of Lang’s next auction this Saturday and Sunday. It’s estimated at $15,000-$20,000. Other rare lots include a Philbrook & Paine marbelised salmon example (pictured), a 3/0 Hardy Restigouche, a red-handled Seamaster anti-reverse fly reel, a George Snyder brass Kentucky and a pair of Stan Bodgan Anniversary salmon reels. Rods include a 9ft Garrison salmon rod and a 7ft 3in Walt Carpenter twin-tip trout rod. The sale, which is online only, also offers a large section of lures, some early fishing-related calendars and a wide selection of flies by renowned tyers among its near-2000 lots. Leave a bid unless you’re happy paying 3% on top of the 18% buyers’ commission.

If it swims, I'll fish for it: marlin or mackerel, trout or tench, salmon or snook. I've written several books on fishing, from one for the Duke of Edinburgh's award to the notorious Catchmore Sharks (don't look at the pictures) and Bob Nudd's autobiography, How to be the World's Best Fisherman. I love exotic travel for fishing (been to Mongolia and Ecuador, the Great Barrier Reef and Arunachal Pradesh) and wish I could afford to do such trips more often. My favourite fish? Anything with fins, though I have a special love for mahseer, and I'm chairman of The Mahseer Trust.
