Some exceptional items, including a in Hardy 4.75in Alma, two sets of Stan Bogdan anniversary reels, an Otto Pleissner original watercolour and A Keelling Musky Minnow are on offer at Lang’s next online sale, which takes place on May 18 and 19. Those two boxed Bogdan salmon reel sets are among more than 30 Bogdan rels for sale.  There are also three Edward vom Hofe Restigouches, a selection of modern Hardy fly reels and an Ari T Hart Remco. Rods include examples by Gary Howells, Lyle Dickerson, Leonard and Pinky Gillum. The top-selling item is likely to be the Pleissner watercolour entitled Camp Harmony. It carries a stupidly low estimate of $5000-$7000.  Best of more than 500 lures are a Hosmer Mechanical Froggie and a five-hook Keeling Musky Minnow. You can view the catalogue here, though beware of the estimates, which are in many cases, ridiculously low. Trust me: you won’t pick up a Fin-Nor wedding cake fly reel for $400! I suppose this means that at least, Lang’s can claim everything sold above estimate…

    About

Editor and publisher of Classic Angling magazine. Founder member of UK Angling Writers' Association and current chairman. Former winner of Writer of the Year. I wrote a weekly angling column for The Independent for 23 years, having previously written columns for The Guardian and Sunday Mirror. If it swims, I'll fish for it: marlin or mackerel, trout or tench, salmon or snook. I've written several books on fishing, from one for the Duke of Edinburgh's award to the notorious Catchmore Sharks (don't look at the pictures) and Bob Nudd's autobiography, How to be the World's Best Fisherman. I love exotic travel for fishing (been to Mongolia and Ecuador, the Great Barrier Reef and Arunachal Pradesh) and wish I could afford to do such trips more often. My favourite fish? Anything with fins, though I have a special love for mahseer, and I'm chairman of The Mahseer Trust.
