The chance to fish with ace bass angler Mike Iaconelli is on offer in a competition being run by Bassmaster. As well as the chance to go fishing with Ike, the winner also gets a round-trip airfare from the continental US, a two-night hotel stay, rental car and $500 spending money. The package includes $900 in Berkley and Abu Garcia fishing reels plus $500 of Rapala fishing gear, as well as a free seminar at The Bass University with Iaconelli and other Bassmaster pros this autumn or next winter. The winner’s prize package is worth $4,995. “You’ll have an opportunity to fish with one of the best pros in the world,” said Mitch Frank, BASS membership director. Iaconelli is the only Bassmaster angler to win a BASS Nation Championship, the Bassmaster Classic, the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year, pick up more than $1 million in career earnings and earn a spot in the Century Club for weighing in more than 100lb in a four-day event with a five-bass limit. About

Editor and publisher of Classic Angling magazine. Founder member of UK Angling Writers' Association and current chairman. Former winner of Writer of the Year. I wrote a weekly angling column for The Independent for 23 years, having previously written columns for The Guardian and Sunday Mirror. If it swims, I'll fish for it: marlin or mackerel, trout or tench, salmon or snook. I've written several books on fishing, from one for the Duke of Edinburgh's award to the notorious Catchmore Sharks (don't look at the pictures) and Bob Nudd's autobiography, How to be the World's Best Fisherman. I love exotic travel for fishing (been to Mongolia and Ecuador, the Great Barrier Reef and Arunachal Pradesh) and wish I could afford to do such trips more often. My favourite fish? Anything with fins, though I have a special love for mahseer, and I'm chairman of The Mahseer Trust.
